Big news! Every year, 12 students are chosen to go to Megacon (comic convention In Orlando, FL) to represent Ringling. This year all 12 students were asked to create a 2 page comic based on the theme "Mean While", which is also the title of the comic. This is what I came up with. The school will be printing 3000 copies. I'll post more info once we get the comic printed.

In our illustration class we had an open assignment. So, I decided i was going to do some background painting to add to my portfolio. The concept was simple: to create a fun image with imaginative color at two different times of the day. After the critique, I may make some minor changes. If I do, i'll be sure to post them.

I wrote and illustrated a comic/zine called "Chess With Brother Melvin". Based on a run-in I had with a homeless man at starbucks. He actually flew away.

I've been practicing these little sketches every day (well, maybe not everyday) outside of my school work. I try and get them done in about an hour. I'm trying to explore color and mood and play with texture and atmosphere. They've been really fun. I hope I get better as I keep doing them. I'll post more soon.

Day 6

It's been almost a week here at the academy. Being here has been a strange experience. My hours are from 9:00am to 10:00pm and sometimes can be a lot later. The days go by quickly yet it feels like I've been here for a long time. You're around art for a majority of the day with no real distractions. The only breaks I take are to eat, sleep, and go to the bathroom. It's been great, and I look forward to taking what I learned back to Sarasota(and speaking of Sarasota, I've been surprisingly missing that place.)
